One Permit Interpretation Example
For the last 5 years, DFG Region 3 (the Greater San Francisco Bay Area) has been following a procedure approved by Captain Tom Belt. Each ferret rescued in this region is assigned a number; reported to Captain Belt; a receipt is written documenting the description, origin, and destination; and the volunteer’s name. At the end of the year, all receipts are sent to the CDFA Rescue Coordinator and a summation of the year’s rescues is created and sent with receipts to Captain Belt. This has been a time consuming project, but well worth the effort.
In 2005, 75 ferrets were rescued and shipped out of state under this program. Statewide, over 250 ferrets were rescued from a questionable fate at the hands of the California Department of Fish & Game. This year (2006) we are already surpassing that number and expect at least 300 rescues by year’s end.
